What's New?

08/20/08: I haven't touched this site in almost two years?! Jeebus. Okay, I gave the bibliography a long-overdue update and sprucing up, made my bio relevant again, informed the top-level page that I'm no longer married, and fixed a bug that rendered the site unusable under IE 7. Possibly at the expense of being able to use it under IE 6. God, I hate Microsoft. Anyway, more updates will soon come. I hope.

First Draft Theater Presents: Casablanca

by Pete Butler

"If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. Day after tomorrow ... that'll twinge a bit. After a week or two, it'll really start to kick in. At first, you'll think you can get used to the smell, but after a week or two, you'll still notice it; funny what happens when you don't have a decent sewer system. And wait'll you get a dose of the heat around here; you can fry eggs on the sidewalk. If Casablanca had any sidewalks. We've got bugs, though. Bugs the size of Cadillacs. And snakes; every night I carry a baseball bat into my bedroom just in case something slithered between the sheets while I was away. And then there's the sand. The sand gets everywhere. I mean, EVERYWHERE. That sand goes places where you didn't even know you had places.

"You know what, kid? Hell with it. We're both getting on that plane."
